Coordinated action sought to curb surging street crimes

Coordinated action sought to curb surging street crimes

With a noticeable increase in street crimes in the city over the last days of Ramazan, a meeting of all three special units of the Sindh police’s Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) was held on Sunday to discuss measures to protect the public.

The meeting of officials from the Special Investigative Unit (SIU), Anti-Violent Crime Cell (ACLC) and Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) was chaired by CIA DIG Dr Jamil Ahmed.

The main focus of the huddle were coordinated measures to curb the surging street crimes in Karachi, particularly during the ongoing pre-Eid shopping rush, and the officials agreed on the need to enact a coordinated security plan.

DIG Ahmed said the action plan must be against all categories of criminals operating in Karachi and called for particular attention towards its technical aspects and measures for the last 10 days of Ramazan and Chaand Raat.

“Due care must be paid towards secrecy of the actions planned against criminals of all categories,” he said.

Directing the SIU to expedite its campaign against street criminals, extortionists and robbers, DIG Ahmed also called for tracking down and arresting all absconders and proclaimed offenders.

The CIA chief told ACLC officials to ramp up efforts against car thieves and pursue them across the province. He also sought a report from the AVCC on actions being taken against criminal gangs involved in abductions for ransom.
